Footprints of Love is an LGBTQ+ living archive rooted in Newham - capturing decades of queer life, love, and community through oral history, documentary film, and emerging technology. This summer, we're bringing the project to Forest Gate Pride, and we want you with us.
We're running a stall in the market area and need a couple of friendly, enthusiastic people to stand with us, chat with the public, tell them about what we're doing, and invite long-term Newham residents to sign up to share their stories.
That's it. No experience needed - just warmth, good energy, and a genuine interest in LGBTQ+ community and local history.
We're especially hoping to hear from LGBTQ+ students and allies - people who bring lived understanding and genuine connection to this community and its stories.
- Be present at the stall and welcome people passing by
- Have simple, friendly conversations about the Footprints of Love project
- Share information about upcoming opportunities to get involved
- Encourage people who have lived in Newham for 20+ years to sign up to share their stories, and help them fill in the sign-up sheet
- Hand out postcards, badges, and flyers
Help keep the stall looking welcoming and the energy upbeat
Bonus skills (not required, but great if you have them): If you have any experience with audio recording or video camera work, we'd love to hear from you - there may be an opportunity to help capture some Vox Pop interviews on the day.
No prior experience is needed. Travel expenses (Oyster/TfL) and lunch and refreshments are covered.
Time commitment
10:00 AM – 5:00 PM (approx. 7 hours per day, including a morning briefing).
Volunteers are welcome to sign up for one or both days.
