We recently launched the first football club in West London specifically for Afghan and Muslim girls. The football club is for Afghan and Muslim girls, aged 8 - 16, from refugee and recent migrant communities, to encourage their participation in sport for their mental and physical well-being. We are recruiting more volunteers to support us in many aspects of this project.
The project is run in West London (Hayes and Feltham), and aims to develop the participants' football knowledge and skills, as well as their physical fitness and mental well-being. We also use sport as a valuable tool to develop the participants' life skills, social skills, and confidence.
Due to the nature of the project, only female volunteers will participate in delivering the training sessions. This is because the sessions are all female-only to ensure that both the girls and their families feel comfortable participating in the club. Tasks at training sessions will include:
- supporting the coach
- encouraging the girls participation in football
- encouraging the girls communication, self-esteem and confidence
- refereeing matches
However, everyone is welcome to support with administrative tasks in the office. Tasks within the office include:
- creating social media content
- building partnerships with other organisations
- organising/planning events for the football club
- creating flyers and leaflets to expand the club
