Dost Centre for Young Refugees and Migrants
Description

Want to work with a great group of young people and be part of their education and increased sense of belonging in their new homes?

Then why not, volunteer at Dost - it's fun, it's rewarding and it's essential for the young people to have somewhere to go to get help with learning English, so that they have opportunities moving forward.

Our ESOL/ Homework sessions are relaxed, young person centred and individually tailored to meet the needs of the young people who access our service.

They are drop in and we may see young peope who are newly arrived in the country and have little or no English skills or they have may have been here for some time and need help with their coursework.

We read books, we do exercises, we play games, we help with homework and we work with the young person to develop and improve at their own pace.

Duties

We are looking for volunteers:

  • To read with young people.
  • To check through homework and work completed.
  • To engage in group games.
  • To set young people exercises, suitable to their level of English/ understanding.
Training
You will need to complete a safeguarding training course if you have not done this - this can be done online in 1, 2 or 3 hours depending on the course chosen.
You will also need a current Enhanced DBS check (paid for by Dost).

Time commitment

You could volunteer weekly, at either our Monday English Class or Thursday Reading session.

Mondays - 3.30pm - 5.45pm at Shipman Youth Zone, E16 3JH

Thursdays - 3.30pm - 5.15pm at Custom House Library, E16 3JJ
