Description

East London Dance runs On The Move, a flagship youth dance and wellbeing programme for children and young people (CYP) aged 7–17 in Newham. The programme combines weekly dance sessions with qualified youth support workers using trauma-informed approaches, dance training and group coaching with a focus on preventative mental health and wellbeing.

Key features:

  • Running for 8 years, with strong evidence of preventive mental health outcomes.
  • Weekly sessions split into ages 7–11 and 11–17.
  • Focus on destigmatising mental health and building confidence.
  • Participants are predominantly from low socioeconomic backgrounds (80%+)
  • High retention rates and majority female participation.
  • Career awareness and pathways are integrated into the programme.

East London Dance would like to do a short research study on their flagship youth dance and wellbeing programme On The Move. The programme starts back around mid to late October until Dec and from Jan - March 2026.

The organisation is trying to leverage more funding to continue the project past March and would value a short impact report and robust impact data. Ideally, that would include research around the impact the programme had on past participants. Looking back over past data.

Duties
  • Review existing data sources (demographics, attendance, retention of the participants), design and implement a quantitative data analysis plan
  • Perform a qualitative analysis of participant reflections (analysing existing data is preferred, but some interviews can also be conducted)
  • Review existing data on benefits on dance and wellbeing-based programmes to enhance the impact evidence
  • Produce funder-ready data visualisations, key findings and testimonials
Who will the volunteers be working with?
Primarily with the Well-being Producer Nzinga and the youth team. Charlene, the Fundraising Manager, will be also available to introduce the volunteer to the team.
Training
Training on how to use the existing data, overview of the organisation and safeguarding

Time commitment

Flexible: main time commitment would be before Christmas, at least to produce basic figures regarding retention and demographic data.

The dance sessions are normally occurring on Wednesdays and Thursdays and it would be useful for the volunteers to work on the ground as well.
