Poplar HARCA has partnered up with active travel organisation Sustrans and environmental organisation HUBBUB to bring residents Chrisp Street Community Cycles, a cycling hub aimed at empowering women, specifically Muslim women to cycle more. We offer free learn to ride sessions, free hire, routes, led rides, maintenance, classes and more. This is a new programme developed after a successful Pilot that was run last year.
Who?
This opportunity is suitable for anyone who is passionate about cycling and can help to encourage and support others as they take up cycling. You don’t need to be an expert cyclist but you must be passionate about helping others take to two wheels! You don’t have your own bike either you can borrow one of ours while you are volunteering.
As our core aim is to increase the number of women cycling, most of our sessions are for women only and we have female instructors; as such we are looking for female volunteers too. If you are a man and would like to get involved please do apply, we may have activities for you to take part in as the project develops.
Your duties will mainly involve showing others how to ride a bike and making sure you do as you are told during any activities that are going to take place. Help any new learners who want to register for the cycling session by helping them fill up the registration form. You need to be able to arrange bikes and other gear for the learners. Must make sure to support everyone to adhere to health and safety guidelines. Lastly making sure to adhere to Poplar HARCA’s policies and procedures. Please get in touch with us for any additional details.
