L'Arche London
We're L'Arche, an international movement of communities for people with and without learning disabilities. L'Arche London, based in West Norwood, is made up of about 100 people with and without learning disabilities, some of whom live in our community houses and others who participate in our workshops or drama group. Joy, openness, and relationship is at the heart of our shared…
Description

Join our laid-back community walk every Friday lunchtimes. It's a drop-in, open to everyone.

This is a great opportunity to join a fun community and make some new friends. If you'd like to do more exercise and get outside more, our community walks are perfect for you.

Duties

We meet at 12 at the L'Arche London workshop (9-13 Norwood High Street) and go for a walk around West Norwood cemetery, before coming back to the workshop for a cup of tea and a chat. Altogether it lasts about an hour. There are normally about 10 people at the walks, a mixture of people with and without learning disabilities. Don't worry about not being fit enough – we walk slowly in L'Arche London! You would need to be able to walk for about forty minutes. No prior experience with people with learning disabilities is necessary. Everyone of all ages and abilities is welcome to just rock up and join in!

Who will the volunteers be working with?
Usually the walking group is made up of: Mary, the Volunteer Coordinator, some other members of the community leadership team, some of the members with learning disabilities, and some of the care assistants.
Training
If you choose to volunteer in other parts of our community, there are training opportunities around autism, sign language, and first aid. But this is just a chance to join a laid-back, friendly walk, no training required.

Time commitment

This is a great chance to drop in and see what our community is like. You could come once, or come every week. This might be your way into other kinds of volunteering, but you're equally welcome to come just to the walk. We have several volunteers already who are too busy to regularly commit to a volunteering slot but come to the walk when they're available.

This organisation is one of our community partner organisations.

Like all volunteer recruiters we work with, they have signed up to our service standards, agreeing to abide by our policy on partnership working to keep you safe and supported whilst you volunteer.

You’ll never be out of pocket for volunteering through us – with in-London travel expenses to and from your volunteering guaranteed.

In addition, the team here at Students’ Union UCL Volunteering Service is here to support you throughout your volunteering journey – you can get in touch with us at any time.
