Volunteer to be a Community Dance Day Ambassador and play a key part in a one‑off celebratory event marking UCL’s 200th birthday.
What is a Community Dance Day?
Community dance is an inclusive and joyful way for people of all ages and abilities to come together through movement. To celebrate UCL turning 200, we're putting on a flagship day of free, drop‑in dance workshops.
We'll be bringing together students, staff and local people in a celebration of our wider shared community.
Highlights include Salsa and Maypole dance workshops: each session is designed to be welcoming and accessible, so everyone can take part in a way that feels right for them.
👉 You can find more information on the Community Dance Day event page here. If you don't want to volunteer this time, but still want to come along to take part, please do!
Why is this Ambassador role important?
This role is crucial to creating a warm, welcoming and inclusive atmosphere throughout the day. As this is an intergenerational and community‑focused event, you’ll be some of the first friendly faces of UCL that participants meet.
You’ll act as a friendly point of contact between students and members of the public. Many local people will never have been on the UCL campus before, or interacted with the university at all. As an Ambassador, you'll bridge the gap between the university and the wider community by helping everyone feel welcome, included and excited to take part.
You’ll be representing UCL and the student body, so confidence, warmth and approachability are key.
No dance experience is needed, this role is all about people skills, positivity and being a welcoming presence.
It’s also a team effort: we're recruiting 30 Ambassadors, so you’ll be volunteering alongside around other UCL students and you’ll always be paired up or working as part of a group.

Here's a taster of what to expect: vibrant joy and connection across all ages and backgrounds.

- Welcome participants as they arrive and help create a friendly, inclusive environment
- Act as a positive ambassador for students and the university, encouraging interaction between students and the wider community
- Support participants during dance workshops, particularly anyone who may be feeling unsure, overwhelmed or needs extra encouragement.
- Help with wristbanding and signposting to workshop times
- Chat with participants during breaks and help ensure everyone feels included, regardless of age, background or experience
- Where appropriate, support as an Access Assistant. This would be discussed in advance based the individual's needs and you'd receive information on how to support. For example, how to help a person with visual impairments to navigate the environment, and join in if they'd like to.
- You'll be able to take part too! The day is all about joy and connection so we encourage getting involved in the workshops.
There will be a Volunteering with Children safeguarding module to complete before volunteering.
