Children of the Mekong
Children of the Mekong works with local communities to improve access and quality of education in Southeast Asia. Children of the Mekong supports children's education in 3 ways: i) With programmes allowing individual child sponsorship, ii) By running education centres and foster houses, iii) By implementing development programmes to improve the children's environment.
Description

Children of the Mekong (COTM) is the UK branch of Enfants du Mékong (EDM), a leading French charity founded in 1958 with the aim of sending poor children to school in Southeast Asia.  In 2022, EDM had an annual budget of 14 million Euros, with 85% of charitable expenditure.  COTM and EDM currently sponsor 23,000 children, oversee 100 development projects every year, and operate 10 centres and 78 foster homes in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

Children of the Mekong was established in 2011; While COTM works closely with the field and the head office in Paris, the charity is independently run and overseen by a motivated and dedicated Board of Trustees.

COTM has one permanent staff member, Eugenie Munakarmi, COO, who is based in Hammersmith, London, and a team of volunteers.
