Cody Dock
One of London's most exciting creative spaces, Cody Dock provides a gateway to the Lea River Park and is home to a gallery, gardens, cafe & bar that make this the perfect pit stop for exploring The Line Sculpture trail and Lower Lea River.  We'd love to hear from any UCL students who'd like to volunteer with us.
Description

Chicks and Bricks- Brick Planters Building

Join us for a special women-only session in June to build new brick planters for the Cody Dock community gardens! We're creating stronger, longer-lasting homes for our trees, permaculture, and vegetables.

Often, women don't get the chance to try out practical skills like building. It can sometimes feel like these are "men's jobs," and the environment can be a bit critical or stressful. We want to change that!

This is a fantastic opportunity to learn basic bricklaying in a relaxed and supportive space, just for women. You don't need any experience at all! It's a chance to try something new, work with a friendly group of women, and help make our local area greener. You'll get hands-on experience, connect with nature, and see how your work helps our community gardens grow. Plus, it's a great way to meet other people and have some fun outdoors!

These new brick planters will be far more sustainable, ensuring a stable and healthy environment for our plants for years to come. They are crucial for our efforts to grow more food and significantly contribute to the biodiversity of our local area along the River Lea.

Our women-only sessions will be run by Isobel. She'll guide you through everything in a fun and easy way. She's a local Spatial Practitioner from East London, with strong ties to Newham. Isobel is really into getting hands-on with building, sharing what she knows, and connecting the worlds of design and making.

Come and discover skills you never thought you had in a welcoming environment!
