Term 1 Details

A New Format!

We're trying something a little different this year! Instead of running a traditional league where pairs commit to playing a weekly fixture throughout the term, we're trialling a weekly mini-tournament format.

The best part of the new format is that you only commit to the tournaments you want to play in. If you can't make it one week, you don't need to worry about missing a fixture — simply book a ticket for the next tournament you're available for.

How Does It Work?

• A mini tournament will take place each week.
• The tournament format may change from week to week depending on the number of sign ups. However what you may is expect:
  • Group stages
  • Playing shorter matches
  • Knockout rounds
• There are two 1.5 hour sessions available each week:
  • 11:00am–12:30pm
  • 12:30pm–2:00pm
• There are 40 spaces available (20 pairs) in each time slot.
• You will need to purchase a separate ticket for each mini tournament you want to play in.
• Tickets will go live 2.5 weeks before each tournament and will be available through the What's On Calendar.

How To Sign Up

Everyone signs up as an individual, so you don't need to have a partner to take part.

When you arrive, you'll be paired up with another player for the tournament.

Already have a partner?
No problem! If you already know who you'd like to play with, just let the activator know when you arrive. We'll make sure you're paired together rather than being matched with someone else.

Format

Rules
- A coin toss should be conducted before a game starts. If you win, you can choose between serving first or pick which end of the court you would like to start at. Your opponent can then exercise the remaining choice.
- Each time a side gains the right to serve, the service shall be delivered from the right service court. Only your opponent standing diagonally opposite of you shall return the service
- After the service is returned, either you or your partner may hit the shuttle from any position on your side of the net
Faults
- If the shuttle lands outside the boundaries of the court
- If the shuttle passes through or under the net, fails to pass the net, touches the ceiling or side walls
- If a player touches the net or its supports with racket
- If a player deliberately distracts an opponent by any action such as shouting or making gestures
- If the shuttle is caught and held on the racket
- If the shuttle is hit twice in succession

Health & Safety
- It is the players responsibility to bring weather/activity appropriate clothing, equipment and footwear.
- Teams are responsible for their own first aid supplies.
- Jewellery and watches must be removed. Medical bracelet may be worn if appropriately taped.
