Purpose of the job

We are seeking friendly, reliable, and customer-focused individuals to join our Front of House team as Christmas Temp Ushers. This role is key to delivering a warm and professional experience for all visitors during our busy festive season.

You will support the smooth running of performances and events by assisting with audience management, bar service, and customer care. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in a vibrant theatre environment and contribute to the success of our seasonal programme.

Job Description:

The Front of House Assistant is a key member of the Visitor Experience Team, helping to create a welcoming, safe, and enjoyable experience for all audiences, visiting companies, and staff.

 

The role combines a variety of customer-facing responsibilities, including ticket scanning, ushering, bar and merchandise sales, and supporting audience safety during performances. Front of House Assistants are ambassadors for the theatre, providing excellent customer service while maintaining high standards of presentation, accessibility, and inclusivity throughout the venue.

 

Person Specification:

We're looking for friendly, reliable, and customer-focused individuals who enjoy working with people and helping to create a welcoming experience for our audiences. You'll be confident working as part of a team, able to remain calm and professional in busy environments, and committed to delivering excellent customer service at all times.

 

You will ideally have:

 

  • Experience in a customer-facing role.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A positive, proactive, and professional approach.
  • The ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good attention to detail and high standards of presentation.
  • A flexible approach to working evenings, weekends, and busy performance schedules.
  • A commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • An interest in theatre, live events, hospitality, or visitor experience.
  • Experience of bar service, retail sales, or using EPOS/till systems (desirable).

 

Training will be provided, including Fire Marshal and evacuation procedures, so we welcome applications from candidates who are keen to learn and develop in a theatre environment.

Role: Theatre Usher

Contract: 23rd Nov – 3rd Jan (possibility to extend), no minimum hours

Salary: Grade 2 (£14.80 per hour, plus accrued holiday pay)
