Purpose of the job

 

We’re looking for enthusiastic and passionate student staff members to perform as the Students’ Union mascot at key events throughout the year. As part of the Students’ Union Mascot Team, you will bring the official Union mascot to life, creating a fun, energetic, and welcoming presence at events, campaigns, sports fixtures, and community activities. Working in pairs, team members will rotate between being inside the mascot costume and acting as the mascot guide, ensuring the role is safe, engaging, and full of energy. These are fun, high-energy roles that make a real impact on student life and campus spirit!

 

Please note: due to the size of the costume, you will need to be between 5ft 6 and 5ft 9.   The role requires periods of physical activity, sometimes in warm conditions inside the costume. Breaks and changeovers will be arranged to support this.

Job description

As our official Students’ Union mascot, your duties will include:

 

  • Wearing the mascot to a variety of Students’ Union events engaging with students to create a fun and welcoming environment 
  • Posing for photos and videos, acting the part of Jeremy ‘Beartham’
  • Support as the mascot guide when not in costume, ensuring Jeremy ‘Beartham’ can walk safely, is not overwhelmed or bombarded by crowds, and can interact positively with students and the wider community 
  • Caring for the mascot costume, ensuring it is kept clean, in good condition and packed away and returned to Union staff post shift
  • Supporting the marketing staff teams with social media content creation where needed
  • Assisting generally with any other tasks as required
