Purpose of the job

We currently have an exciting student staff opportunity available to work within Representation and Democracy Team as our Networks Event Assistant. In this role, you will be supporting with organising events and activities for our nine Networks. This could include workshops, socials, history month celebrations and conferences. 

 

We are looking for someone who is organised, can manage their time well, work independently and who shows initiative. Previous experience of organising events at University is essential. This position is a great opportunity for those who are interested in playing a role in supporting student representatives to thrive in improving the student experience. You will work within a supportive team environment and report Networks Development Coordinator. Enthusiasm, a positive attitude and an eagerness to learn are key to succeeding in the post.

Job description
  • To organise and facilitate events for Student Networks. 
  • Liaise with line manager and Network Leaders to develop a comprehensive programme of events for the 2026-27 academic year. 
  • To update content on our website.
  • To ensure that events are inclusive and engaging.
  • To evaluate the success of events organised. 
  • To respond to relevant queries from students and staff.
  • To provide general administrative support as required.
  • To carry out work professionally and confidentially at all times.
  • To be a positive representative of the Students’ Union.
  • To maintain an awareness and observation of Health & Safety regulations.
  • To commit to reducing the Union’s environmental impact and promote environmental and ethical good practice in line with the Students’ Union policy.
  • To undertake such other duties within the general framework of the post as may from time to time be required.
  • To undertake all duties in line with Union policies.

 

Person Specification

 

Essential:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and use initiative. 
  • Excellent attention to detail. 
  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Reliable, punctual and able to multitask in order to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to organising engaging and inclusive events for students.

Enthusiasm and positive attitude

 

  • Understanding of and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

 

Desirable:

  • A familiarity with Students’ Unions through student leadership, representation, volunteering, society committees or community involvement.

  • Experience of managing websites.

  • Previous knowledge of office systems and procedures.
