The Vascular Anastomosis Workshop is a focused, hands on teaching session designed to introduce medical students to core principles and techniques used in vascular surgery. Through guided, step by step instruction, participants will gain practical exposure to vascular anastomosis in a safe, supervised learning environment using synthetic models.

The session is structured to build both technical understanding and confidence, allowing participants to practise multiple techniques within a single workshop. Teaching will be delivered in small groups with close supervision to ensure individual feedback and support throughout.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the three primary types of vascular anastomosis, end to end, end to side, and side to side
  • Understand the basic principles, indications, and procedural steps for each technique
  • Perform continuous and or interrupted suture patterns on a synthetic vascular model
  • Demonstrate correct handling of basic surgical instruments, including needle holders and forceps
  • Develop confidence by practising all core techniques within a structured session
