Join us for a special screening of Power Station, a 90-minute documentary following a group of neighbours in Walthamstow as they try to turn their street and local schools solar, building a community-led “power station” from the ground up.

The film offers an honest, funny and hopeful look at what happens when ordinary people work together to tackle the climate crisis where they live. It explores new ownership models, the challenges of raising community finance, and the momentum required to turn bold ideas into impactful action.

After the screening, there will be a short panel conversation bringing together perspectives on community energy, social enterprise and climate justice – including practitioners with hands-on experience of retrofit and healthy buildings, and researchers working on energy, development and just transitions. The discussion will look at how social enterprises and community groups can build fairer energy systems, connect local health and housing realities to global climate goals, and what this means for students who want to turn ideas like those in the film into real-world projects. This is a chance to ask questions, connect what you’ve seen to your studies, and find routes into getting involved with climate and community action at UCL and beyond.

Part of Students’ Union UCL’s Student Social Enterprise programme – learn how business models can drive climate and community action.  Organised in collaboration with Climate Action Society (CAS).
