UCL Student Hospital Fun Team
What is UCL Student Hospital Fun Team? UCL Student Hospital Fun Team is an award-winning volunteering organisation that aims to create a sense of normality for children and adolescents in hospital with games and conversation.  Why join the UCL Fun Team?
Description

Why join the UCL Fun Team?

As a volunteer, you’ll work directly with children and young people in paediatric wards, providing much needed support and joy to the hospital environment. Whether you're naturally skilled at working with kids or wanting to try something new, our organisation offers the perfect opportunity for you.

In addition, you'll develop important teamwork and communication skills and receive a certificate from the Students' Union recognising your contribution as a volunteer.

Above all, the experience is fun and rewarding, and the main thing we want from our volunteers is enthusiasm!

Duties

Your role will helping to create a sense of normality and fun for children and young people in hospital - this could be through conversation, playing games, art or making something. The Playnurses will help to shape the sessions and find out which children would like to take part.
The main thing we want from our volunteers is enthusiasm!

Who will the volunteers be working with?
The Playnurses at Royal Free Hospital, the Project Leaders, children and young people on the paediatric wards. You'll also always volunteer as a pair, so you'll be working with other UCL student volunteers.
Training
You'll complete the Students' Union Volunteering with Children online training course.
We'll also offer other Induction training in January 2026.

Time commitment

We ask students to volunteer once every 2 weeks.

And we have a flexible range of times you can volunteer:
Monday - Sunday
10:00 am - 12:00 pm
2:00pm - 4:00pm

This is an opportunity offered by a Student-Led Volunteering Project. It is run by UCL students and supported and supervised by staff in Students' Union UCL Volunteering Service.
