Description

As Vice Project Leader, you’ll be right at the heart of shaping the direction of Next Gen Medics. This role is perfect for someone who wants to step into leadership, gain hands-on experience in running a student-led project, and make a real impact on the future of aspiring medics at UCL. You’ll work closely with the Project Leader to drive forward our vision, coordinate exciting initiatives, and support a passionate team of students. When the Project Leader isn’t around, you’ll step up as the key decision-maker — making sure the project continues to run smoothly and inclusively. It’s a chance to develop your leadership skills, build connections in healthcare, and leave a lasting mark on the project.

Duties
  • Support the Project Leader with strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Act as the main point of contact in the absence of the Project Leader.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations and check in with committee members to ensure tasks are progressing.
  • Help coordinate large-scale events, workshops, and collaborations.
  • Support recruitment and induction of new committee members.
  • Promote the project’s aims across UCL and externally.
  • Step into leadership roles when needed, ensuring continuity of project activities.
Who will the volunteers be working with?
The Vice Project Leader will work closely with the Project Leader to co-lead the project and ensure everything runs smoothly. They’ll also collaborate with the rest of the committee — including the welfare & events officer, training lead, social media lead. Beyond the committee, they’ll be engaging with UCL students, guest speakers, healthcare professionals, and external partners to help deliver events and opportunities that inspire the next generation of medics.
Training
- Full handover and induction from the outgoing committee, including guidance on project aims and ongoing initiatives.
- Support and mentoring from the Project Leader and the rest of the committee.
- Access to resources and guidance from UCL Student Opportunities staff (covering leadership, inclusivity, safeguarding, and event organisation).
- Ongoing opportunities to develop leadership, event management, and communication skills through real experience in the role.

Time commitment

Approx. 3–5 hours per week, depending on events and deadlines.
Regular attendance at committee meetings and support for major project activities.

This is an opportunity offered by a Student-Led Volunteering Project. It is run by UCL students and supported and supervised by staff in Students' Union UCL Volunteering Service.
