Election post
Hi, I’m Diya, a first-year Physics student. Women in STEM is a cause I’m particularly passionate about and has been a central part of my life over the past few years, having initiated and been involved in several projects supporting the cause.
As president of my school’s women in STEM club, I coordinated a Women in STEM Tech Talk series featuring biophysicists from CERN and AI experts from WIPO. This experience made me appreciate the value of having strong female inspirations in the industry and building connections within the community. Alongside this, I also organised workshops for younger students to inspire a love for science and developed a partnership with a local charity, raising over 2,500 CHF to support female medical students in Sierra Leone.
As Events Officer, I am eager to hear and learn from all of you and to help plan events that would build an even stronger sense of community. I also hope to plan activities that would build academic and professional skills and create connections. I have several ideas such as themed panels (for example, “Women in AI” or "Interdisciplinary Research”) and partnerships with external organisations to expand our outreach beyond UCL.
I am extremely excited for the opportunity to meet and work with other like-minded women. For me, Women in STEM has always been a safe space to connect with others and share ideas. But it is also an opportunity to make a difference both within the UCL community and beyond.
