Hi everyone! I'm excited to apply to be your next Welfare Officer.

As iNUGSC Widening Participation Officer, I have developed strong organisational skills and experience working both within and leading a team. Organising a conference for sixth-form students from underprivileged backgrounds highlighted to me the financial, logistical and communication challenges of large projects. Most importantly, it's shown me the importance of having an environment that is inclusive and supportive for everyone.

As Welfare Officer, I want to bridge the gap between committee, sub-committee, and members, ensuring that SurgSoc is a welcoming environment for everyone, whether fully committed to surgery or just exploring it.

To do this, I will implement:

  • A more inclusive Scrubs Run - accommodating both runners and walkers, making it fun and accessible for everyone
  • Wellbeing events  - collaborating with sports and arts societies to run sessions such as yoga, rounders, crochet and more; giving practical ways to manage stress
  • Regular drop-in sessions - providing a safe, approachable space for academic, personal, and society/subcommittee-related support
  • Continuing the SurgSoc Families initiative - to support those who may not have connections in surgery/research, and strengthen the SurgSoc community.

I want to make SurgSoc a welcoming community, as well as academically driven. The balance between academics and welfare is so important, and I want to help implement this in SurgSoc.

Thank you for considering me!
