Election post
Being Somali is an important part of my identity, and by joining UCL’s Somali Society committee I want to help create more opportunities for our community to connect and support one another. I want the society to be a space where people keep coming back to because the events are welcoming and the vibe is genuine - not just somewhere people attend once.
I want to be president because I believe being active in your community and giving back is important for creating a safe space where people can learn and grow. As president I’d like to introduce more events and collaborations to increase the society’s visibility across campus.
Going forward, I think Somali Society should focus on unique cultural celebrations that help people stay connected to our culture, as well as engaging social events so no one feels alone in such a busy environment.
Somali Society has a lot of potential, and I’d like to bring more energy into it and make it a more inclusive and memorable space where people find real belonging.
