Maryam Izhac

Hello!

I'm Maryam, a third-year Pharmacy student with a deep interest in chemical sciences; a field, incidentally, this magazine covers with enviable flair.

After two years of eagerly reading every new edition and months of pestering your current Physics Editor with unsolicited ideas (sorry Zainab), I decided it was time to get involved properly.

I’d say I have experience in both science and storytelling. As a previous regular delegate in Model United Nations WHO committee conferences, I learned to turn dense research into speeches engaging enough to keep a room awake (70% enthusiasm, 30% survival instinct). My degree also requires me to speak directly with patients, meaning I constantly break down complex medicinal chemistry and formulation science into explanations that are clear, accessible, and genuinely helpful; a skill I’ve come to value immensely.

This year, I’ve worked as a researcher for the Fight the Fakes Alliance, which I’ve loved, particularly the challenge of translating global health issues into impactful, digestible content. I’ve also worked as a content creator for a wellness-focused platform producing blog and video content to help draw wider audiences into science focused areas.

I’d love to bring that same energy, curiosity, and dry humour to the Chemistry section.
