The Sci-Fi and Fantasy society has been a big part of my university life in the last year. Warm and welcoming towards new members, with its events catered towards the enjoyment and fun of everyone, it provided a space to meet new friends, play fun games, and nerd out over different interests people have. Whether it be through board game nights, RPG days, or other miscellaneous events, there is something for everyone to enjoy. This society is a wonderful community, and I am glad that I am able to be a part of it as a member.

Now, with this in mind, I want to give back to the society, and apply to be the Treasurer of the society, so that hopefully, during the next year, I can assist in maintaining the amazing community and space that I had the joy of being a member of this year, so that it can continue to do so for others interested in joining it. If I am to be elected, I will try my best to uphold the standard that has been set so far by the current committee team, and to help in supporting the Sci-Fi and Fantasy society through another year :D!

Scarlett Su

Hi!I’m scarlett :) I have been in the committee for the past several months and really enjoyed it,and i just decided to put my name forward for treasurer this time.Im happy to take care of the budgets and try handling the budgets for some interesting events!

John Terzonie

Hi! This is John, NOT Ben though they are absolutely a great candidate as well, choosing to run for treasurer of the society for a few reasons:

Despite being a sizable society that hosts multiple events and has, this year no less than others, repeatedly collaborated with a large number of societies, it seems like this society often finds itself fighting with the slow, frustrating bureaucracy of the wider student union. I have the will, developed over years as a carer, to drudge through that bureaucracy to get the best possible outcome for the society. I want to be a strong-willed advocate alongside the president. This society has a rather large, incredibly engaged membership, and is consistently popular with incoming students. I think it's best that it has the tools to keep that going and that it ought to attract the kind of importance its members give it.

I know how to manage money, I think? I've had to manage money quite frugally in my life, coming from a family with limited finances. I know how to use a budget meaningfully and hope to get as much out of what we have as possible.

This society has an incredible culture. It's a warm, welcoming place that I can't help but invest myself in. The committee has done an amazing job of building a strong community that I'm glad to be part of. I want to maintain that, to help see it thrive; keep a warming hearth burning, so to speak.

Thank you for reading through all of that! Hope the dog picture is convincing, if nothing else!

Benjamin De Almeida-Ramalho

Can't think of a reason why.

However, why not?

Below are reasons as to why not:

Simon Pryor

Hi all,

As you may have seen I’m also standing for President. Since I can’t hold both positions at once, I will decline the Treasurer position if also elected as President. From what I understand this shouldn’t cause an issue if other candidates are standing, and if not there would be a by-election anyway. So there’s no reason not to vote for me in both if that is what your heart desires.

All that said, I think I’d make a good Treasurer next year, since I like to think I’m already doing just that. My experience as Treasurer this year has taught me a great deal, and I’d be honoured to be given the chance to take that knowledge into a second term of office.
