I was so excited to join RAX, however, unfortunately injury has prevented me from fully committing to all training. Still, because of the social side, I have very much felt part of the community.

I had to stop my childhood sport of figure skating to go travelling, and so it was daunting to start something new and so different. No anxiety was necessary though; RAX was so welcoming and made me feel I belonged to something again. I would love to be the person able to provide this sort of safe space next year, and especially to help those getting into a new sport at uni.

I believe the social aspect of RAX is paramount because running is not an inherently social sport. I know I will be able to find the perfect balance between the fun and serious training in RAX, which is especially important in the cold, wet, and dark months of September-February. The need to make new friends every few days whilst I was travelling has helped me become proficient at connecting with people and has helped me recognise the importance of community.

If I am lucky enough to take on this role, I have a few ideas would love to implement. These include a coffee run, a running pub crawl, more regular pub visits after social runs, movie nights, and I also have many fun themes lined up for everyone’s favourite night of the week…sports night! I have great organisational skills and experience in organising events, and believe I would be a valuable addition to the committee.
