Charlotte Lai

Hey everyone, I’m Charlotte, and I’m thrilled to be running as your next RUMS President!

I have absolutely loved being on committee as your Academic VP this year, adapting RUMS Tutorials to be more exam-focused, tackling the deep-clean of the Trove, and building strong relations with medical school faculty in regular academic meetings!

This role feels like a natural next step to not only build on work I’ve already started, but also take on responsibilities in all areas of RUMS. Whether you know me best several pints deep in Mully’s basement or from teaching the difference between pernicious and folate anaemia at a RUMS Tutorial the very next day, I’m confident that I’m someone who can do both. And that balance - academic, social and supportive - is exactly what RUMS needs.

I’d love the opportunity to fully dedicate myself to our community in a way that’s inclusive, transparent, and genuinely representative of all of us and our diverse needs.

If elected, I will:

  • Make RUMS events more affordable and inclusive for all, expanding access and support for students facing financial barriers.
  • Build stronger partnerships with other London Med School Presidents to deliver more UH and inter-uni academic and social events.
  • Collaborate with MedSoc and SurgSoc to streamline pre-clinical tutorials and communications, reducing overlap and messages on group chats.
  • Expand our charity initiatives with more RUMS-wide fundraising events in the quieter weeks of Terms 2 and 3!
