Lauren Shaw

Hi everyone! I’ve been part of Violin 1 since Term 2 and have already learned so much in this short time, and I’d love to serve as one of your String Orchestra Managers. I’ve been at (almost) every rehearsal, seen how things work, and I’m ready to help be a bigger part of this.

Building on what’s worked so well already (shoutout to Diego and Ben!), I’ll work with the other manager to handle the setup grind and make sure we’ve got spaces secured for rehearsals and performances. I’ll also collaborate with the conductor on repertoire selection — and hopefully get input from all of you on what we play next. And of course, I won’t forget the best parts of rehearsal: biscuit breaks (digestives, Jaffa Cakes, etc.), pub runs, and post-concert socials!

Most importantly, I’m reliable, organised, and genuinely care about this orchestra – I was concertmaster for my high school community orchestra and worked with the concertmaster of Hong Kong Phil so I know how to collaborate across stakeholders and keep sections tight. As someone who’s considered quite social and approachable, I’d also love to encourage more freshers to join our orchestra and socials next term — bringing in new faces alongside our familiar ones:)
