Election post
When I joined this year, I noticed that the UCL Undergraduate Maths Colloquium wasn’t being run. Instead of thinking “that’s a shame,” I thought “guess I’m running it then.” I secured a hefty budget from the department, organised speakers, venues, times, advertised it, and made it happen.
I’m a first year, but I don’t wait around for things to happen. I get things done. As events officer I’ll keep weekly academic talks running, but also socials and events that bring everyone together. Finance talks? LaTeX/ MATLAB workshops? Lower-year support sessions that people would actually attend? You name it, I organise.
The Undergraduate maths colloquium is a weekly talk series on maths-related research or any other interesting maths topics. Join us on Wednesdays for engaging maths discussions and free biscuits :) The final 2 talks this term are on the 18th, 25th March and then the colloquium will be restarting in June after exams! Please feel free to get in touch if you have any talk topic requests, if you would like to deliver a talk yourself, or if you have any professors that you would like me to invite!
