Afrid Rahamathullah

Hello, my name is Afrid and I’m applying for the role of Events Officer because planning our recent Maths Poker Society night with my friends showed me how rewarding it is to take an idea from scratch and turn it into an event people genuinely enjoy. It made me want to do more for ADM, more consistently, and on a bigger scale. If elected, I’ll prioritise regular weekly events so there’s always something to look forward to, with a balance of low-pressure socials like games nights, quizzes, and café meetups, as well as bigger highlights that bring the whole society together. I’ll keep things welcoming, with events that are easy to join and clearly advertised.

A key goal of mine is to organise an ADM trip abroad as a flagship event. I believe this can be a standout weekend that builds friendships across year groups and creates shared memories that last beyond university.

I also want to help deliver an excellent UCL Maths Ball, focusing on strong organisation and attention to detail so it feels special and runs smoothly on the night. Alongside socials, I’ll expand career events by bringing in inspiring speakers, alumni panels, and industry Q&As that give maths students real insight and connections. I’ll organise more collaborations with other societies and work to grow our budget, so we can run better events (and have more free food ;)).
