Hi everyone, my name is Ares, and I'm running to be a Competitions Officer for UCL Maths Society!

I can safely say that maths competitions have played a large part in my pursuit of a quantitative degree at uni and joining the maths society here at UCL. I love the competitive aspect, challenge and social opportunities that competitions create, and I want to play my part in helping students discover the same passion that I have.

If elected, I’d like to help bridge the gap between casual participants and more competitive problem solvers. For example, we could introduce things like inter-year rounds so people of different experience levels can get involved and compete in a fun way. Working with the other officers, I’d also like to develop unique competition formats so we can bring fresh ideas to the society. I think this would help make our competitions more engaging, strengthen the community around problem-solving at UCL, and make the Maths Society more recognisable to other universities and competitors as well!

I’ve competed in the British Mathematical Olympiad and multiple science Olympiads here in the UK. I’ve also led a team to victory at the UCL x BrainHacQ Hackathon, so I’m no stranger to collaboration and groupwork.

Whether you’re new to competitions or a seasoned veteran, and want to see more engaging, inclusive, and memorable events here at UCL, please consider voting for me :).

Thanks for reading my manifesto!
