Election post
Hi everyone! I’m Jake, a first-year History student.
Breaking into the legal profession can often feel opaque rather than simply competitive. There are countless events, schemes and application processes, yet it isn’t always clear how they connect or where to begin. I’m running for Events Officer because I want to organise events that give members clearer direction and practical exposure to the profession.
Through attending numerous firm events and navigating the early stages of the application process myself, I’ve been fortunate to secure places on first-year schemes with Slaughter and May, Simmons & Simmons, and Brabners, and recently interviewed for the Linklaters Pathfinders Scheme, with the outcome currently pending.
If elected, I would organise events that are practical, engaging and accessible, including: • Application deconstruction sessions analysing successful CVs, cover letters and interview answers to understand what actually makes candidates stand out. • Networking events with trainees, associates and graduate recruiters
• Panels with non-law students and graduates who have entered the profession.
• Interactive case-study sessions where members work through realistic legal or commercial problems and present advice as a team.
Alongside this, I would foster a welcoming community through informal socials where members can connect with others interested in law.
I would really appreciate your vote. Thank you!
