Sonia Naidu

I’m applying for Sports Officer because sport has always been a huge part of my life. I used to play county cricket, which taught me discipline, teamwork, and leadership, but also how powerful sport is in building friendships and bringing people together. Even beyond playing, I’ve always loved watching sport, especially cricket, and I understand just how big it is culturally, particularly in India. That sense of collective excitement and pride is something I’d love to channel into India Soc.

I think sport is such an effective way to strengthen community spirit within a society. Whether it’s competitive tournaments, casual matches, or even screening big games together, there’s so much potential to create shared experiences. Having helped host Culture Day at my school, I’ve seen how events outside of academics can really bring people closer, and I’d love to create that same sense of unity through sport. For me, this role wouldn’t just be about organising fixtures, it would alsobe about fostering inclusivity, encouraging participation at all levels, and using sport as another way to build a strong, connected India Soc community.
