Sahaana Mahadevan

Hi! I'm Sahaana, and I’m excited to run for Executive Director of the Indian Dance Society. As a First Year Rep and performer I saw the passion, energy and talent that define this community. It would be an honour to help strengthen and grow a society that already feels like home.

Dance has always been essential to me, especially Bharatanatyam. After 10+ years of training in India and completing a certification course, dance has taught me discipline, consistency and quiet confidence. Balancing demanding performances with academics strengthened my ability to manage time effectively. Choreographing school shows required cooperation, problem-solving and steady leadership — making sure everyone felt supported while working together. These experiences shaped me into someone reliable, organised and committed.

As FYR, I gained a deeper understanding of how IDS functions behind the scenes — the coordination, communication and commitment required to make events successful. This insight highlighted opportunities to increase engagement in society events and to grow Naach into a larger, more widely anticipated annual production. Strengthening participation and creating an open, welcoming environment where members feel encouraged to step forward would be my main priorities. I also aim to continue to grow IDS's social media reach.

IDS is a wonderful and welcoming community; I hope to help it expand in participation and impact. It would be an honour to do so as the Executive Director!
