Election post
Hey! My name is Anna and I am going into my second year.
My vision for the History Society is social: a weekly space where people get to know each other. Our members do courses with minimal contact hours, which can be lonely. I want our society to be the place where you see familiar faces, make new friends, and feel part of a community.
I am committed to weekly socials — whether that’s hot chocolate and cookies, a historical movie night, karaoke, or a casual pub evening. What’s most important is that we show up reliably and consistently.
Furthermore, we will have monthly cultural trips and events, like exploring a London neighbourhood on a historical tour, a lecture and discussion with pizza, a trip to the Imperial War Museum, or a day in Bath.
The history society would also benefit from department collaborations each term, like a pub social after a lecture series. This will help strengthen connections between students and staff, as well as make the most of what’s already happening in the department.
As Academic Rep for History, I’m up-to-date with the department and aware of what students across all years need. I have strong connections with both staff and students who care about our experience.
Lastly, cross-year contact is an opportunity for mentorship. When we help first-years with proofreading essays or advise on lecturers and module selection, they will not only feel welcome, but also do the same for their first-years.
What’s most important is that we show up for each other <3
