Hi everyone, I’m Haarisah, you may recognise me as your current BAME rep. I joined the committee this year because of GenFem’s strong commitment to an intersectional feminist community. I have found that in many circles, feminist thought simply exists as reactionary and abstract, but feminism transcends the bounds of academia; it is a practice rooted in community. It is for this reason that I am running to be president of the 2026 GenFem Committee.

Being on the committee this year has not only equipped me with the skills to take on responsibility and lead discussions, but my fellow committee members have expanded my knowledge on feminist discourse. In a world where TERFism, racism, misogynoir, homophobia, etc. are on the rise and where more and more people are swallowing the red pill; I hope with the knowledge and skills I have gained from being on the committee will allow us to create a safer space for the marginalised ‘other’ not just through our much-loved discussions but also as an active embodiment of our beliefs, for feminism is not just a noun but a verb.

My goal for GenFem is outreach-expansion. I am hoping to cultivate a feminist culture within UCL, where all peoples can come together to be more proactive intersectional feminists. Whether it may be discussions, panel events, bringing in speakers, protesting or just coming together to unwind, I want to continue these conversations with our members but to also expand and amplify the feminist voice across campus.
