Dan Nguyen

Hi! I’m Dan – a philosophy student and Era’s current Fiction and Poetry sub-editor. Over the past year, I’ve had the chance to meet many of you at socials and Era's creative writing workshops. I’m running for president of Era Journal because I want to continue building Era as a platform for UCL’s writers and artists to experiment, showcase, and hone their craft. My experience leading the fiction portion of our creative writing workshops this year has shown me that culture happens when people are in the same room. I think we need to be in the same room more often. If elected president, I want to spread what we have in Fiction and Poetry across the magazine. Concretely, within sections, this will look like an increase in events such as creative writing workshops, museum visits for Arts and Design, reading groups for Literature, viewings for Film and Theater, and live events for Music. I will also push for more cross-section events. By increasing contact between the members of our community, I believe that we will foster not only our creative potential, but also connect through our shared passion for arts and culture, i.e. the foundation of Era's high-caliber output. Era has something special, defined by each of its individual members and our access to the cultural scenes of London. As president, I will work closely with our team of editors and contributors to uphold the momentum we’ve gained over this past year to grow our reach both at UCL and beyond campus.
