Every unicorn was once someone's crazy idea. Gojek started as a 20-person call centre. Today, as part of GoTo, the fifth largest IPO in the world in 2022, it's a multi-billion dollar super-app. I grew up watching that happen.
I'm Neilson, a first-year Economics student. FP&A analyst. Investment Strategy intern at Accor Group. 180DC and UCL Consulting consultant. Actively managing my personal portfolio too. I've modelled enough businesses to know the numbers never lie. The people sometimes do :)
That's the lens I'll bring as UCLe's VC Fund Executive. When a startup pitches, I'm looking at two things: the founding team — their grit and ability to execute well — and the problem they're solving. Is it real? Is there a profitable path to scale? The most compelling pitches aren't always the most polished. They're the ones where you can tell the founders won't stop.
I want The Fund to feel like a high-stakes, rigorous process with structured feedback rounds, transparent evaluation criteria, and decisions founders can actually learn from whether they get backed or not.
Seed funding is easy to give. Giving it to the right people is the hard part. That's what I'm here to get right.
