Hi Lightning!! I’m Lidia and I would love to be your next Welfare Officer!

Joining Lightning has been one of the best decisions I’ve made and the highlight of my university experience. It has become such an important part of my life, not only because of my growing love for the sport, but also because of the incredible friendships I’ve made along the way. Because of how much this club means to me, I would love the opportunity to help make Lightning better than it already is!

Lightning already has such a supportive environment, but I also recognise that the pressures that can come with cheerleading aren’t always easy to talk about. I would like to be someone you feel comfortable coming to with any concerns, and to create a safe space where everyone feels listened to and supported. I understand that not everyone feels comfortable raising issues face-to-face, so I would provide different ways for members to share their concerns, such as online.

Being Rec and Varsity Captain has expanded my ability to manage a large number of athletes, which I could use in the welfare role to organising events, providing more bonding opportunities.

I would also raise awareness around key wellbeing and inclusion topics through social media campaigns, themed training sessions, and other initiatives, while always listening to members’ ideas and feedback to make sure everyone feels represented.
