Alicia Ling

UCL Badminton has been a defining part of my university experience since first year, giving me lasting friendships and significant personal growth. It is a community I deeply value and one I am committed to contributing to wholeheartedly.

As outgoing President and a former Women's Team Vice Captain prior to university, I have developed a leadership style centred on team cohesion, accountability and effective communication. Having experienced both player and leadership roles, I understand the importance of creating an environment where players feel motivated, supported and confident to perform.

Over the past two years, I supported the Women's 1 Team in achieving 1st and 3rd Team placings in the BUCS Southern Premiership (2024/25 and 2025/26). My presidency has strengthened my leadership beyond the court, including coordinating training structures, managing competition logistics and maintaining effective communication between players and committee members. This has given me strong oversight of team operations, which I will bring into the captaincy role.

I lead by example through consistency, work ethic and a positive competitive mindset while prioritising empathy and open communication. I believe a captain's role is to unite different players and their strengths into a cohesive team with shared goals.

As Women's 1 Captain, I aim to strengthen the high-performance yet supportive environment where players feel empowered and disciplined to compete at the highest university level.
