Election post
As an intimidated first year international student, drama society was one community space where I felt I could truly contribute and have my voice heard, and that was partially due to members' well-being being well looked after, so taking up this role would be a delightful way of giving back to the society. I think especially in a place like a drama club where certain roles or demands could be particularly heavy for people to grapple with, the presence of a welfare officer is extremely helpful in mitigating situations and encouraging students. I have personally experienced discrimination and dealt with mental health issues while being at university but have thankfully been successful in overcoming those scenarios, hence it would mean the world to me to be able to foster and ensure such services for other students too. My experiences in a variety of collaborative work ranging from directing plays to working on film sets to different kinds of volunteer work, have made me confident in my ability to hear out and help others or direct them to the best service for their situation to ensure the smooth functioning of a group, so I am more than ready to practice the same as an ardent member of the society too, hopefully being able to repay a small part of what it has given me and what it has done for my involvement and interest in university activities as a whole.
