Candidates

Joseph Wood

This role would enable me to utilise my skills to maintain the diversity and access which current leadership has worked so hard to develop.

Skills

  • Teamwork (my P-T job)
  • Organisation
  • Leadership
  • Problem-solving
  • Interpersonal skills

My prefectship at Sixth Form enabled me to communicate, and build lasting relationships with both senior staff members and peers. Likewise, my Geography Representative position allowed me to liaise with both students and departmental staff, and gave me the opportunity to choose topics of discussion for society meetings. Winning the Geography Prize from a cohort of 50 and helping lead the Geography Open Days, where I informed prospective students of the curriculum and persuaded them to choose the subject, I believe I could have a positive impact ensuring the society runs smoothly.

Aims

My main aims would be to listen to peers and take queries to society leadership, to ultimately find a way to solve issues, to organise a cohesive and attractive offer holders' event to convince prospective students to pursue their study at UCL, and ultimately to support the team and its members by providing a space in which people feel comfortable.

Therefore, I would provide the greatest level of outreach as possible, as I think it is important that every student has access to such spaces, and I am keen to participate in reaching the collective aim; to encourage more students to explore geography and the wider world through discussions and events.

Izzy Lewis

Hey guys, my name is Izzy and I would like to be your General Secretary for the upcoming academic year.

As General Secretary, I will strive to support everyone within the society, be it communicating any hopes and ideas to the rest of the team, or assisting in scheduling events etc. Regardless of magnitude, I am always ready to help with any concerns or queries.

I am applying for this role as I am eager to expand my skills; enjoy solving problems and wish to take on more responsibility by becoming more involved with the Geography Society, and helping all its members and activities.

I am a BA undergraduate Geography student with experience working as a General Assistant, as this is my role in my current job. This makes me experienced in communication skills, time management and organisation, as well as critical team working skills. As such I feel ready to take on this role with confidence, and will strive to make sure everyone has the best (and also the easiest) experience possible.
