I would like to nominate myself for social secretary as this year Sikh society has made a major impact on my university experience, considering last year everything was online. Therefore, I would also like to contribute and be part of the committee to make everyone else’s experience as good as mine was this year. As a social secretary, I would organise student budget-friendly events for everyone to enjoy. This year I went to the annual bowling event, ice skating event as well as some gurdwara programs and as a social secretary, I will continue to implement these events considering I enjoyed them so much. I will try to keep a good balance between both religious events and social activities. I have good time management, communication skills and teamwork skills, which will enable me to do this role efficiently.
Hi, my name is Prem.
The role of Social Secretary is very important in bringing together society members. I am creative, well-organised and incredibly sociable - all of which will come in good use when coordinating affordable events for the society, and making sure that there is a friendly, fun atmosphere for members!
Outside of my Psychology studies here at UCL, I have really enjoyed serving as the First Year Representative for the Sikh Society this past year. I have already been able to appreciate the value of the Society's social events in building lasting friendships. I have excellent communication skills and am a great listener. I also have experience in coordinating events from my time at school, as the: Head of Psychology Club; Chair of Philosophy Club; and co-founder of our own Sikh Society.
Overall, I am looking forward to working as part of the committee to provide a great year of social events, besides collaborating with other universities - and I am excited to build even more lasting friendships!

I would love to be the social secretary and be a part of the Sikh Society committee. Having taken part and enjoyed the socials arranged this year, I too want to plan and deliver such well-planned events.
I love planning events, whether that be a small fun day out with my mates or an event for my whole Sixth Form that I helped organise as Head Boy. To be accommodating to as many people as possible so that everyone can have a good time, I will make use of regular online polls on the events we would carry out.
I love the family vibes of this society and I want to continue this by arranging more frequent society lunches/dinners. Some ideas of events I would love to carry out include: a Sikh soc ball, movie nights (where we watch Sikh movies, such as, Chaar Sahibzaade), trampolining, going hiking, paintballing and go karting. I would also of course be happy to take on any suggestions for socials you may have and make it happen.
I would definitely maintain the great social dynamics that were carried out this year whilst also adding new socials to ensure you all have a great time.

Hi! My name is Jaya and I'm excited to be running for Social Secretary of Sikh Society. As an active member of Sikh society this year, I fully understand the important part that events play within the society. They are central to being able to socialise, whilst being able to learn and embrace Sikhi. For example, the flagship Langar on Campus allowed members to come together and practice important teachings of the Sikh religion whilst socialising and speaking to different people.
Being part of a prestigious university such as UCL can come with stresses, so as Social Secretary, my main objective would be to provide fun and sociable events which are open for everyone regardless of background or religion. Activities such as mini golf and bowling are just a couple of ideas that come to mind. It is important not to forget that we are a society based around religion, so events which centralise this are very important. Holding talks and discussions with prominent figures, trips to the Gurdwara and holding events for celebrations like Bandi Chhor Divas and Vaisakhi would be some of the events we could plan.
I believe I would be a great fit for this role as I am a team player and would work with other committee members to provide the best. I am passionate about the religion and would express this through my commitment and hard work. I would also be really encouraging to members to share their thoughts and opinions on what they would want from events!

I would love to apply for this role as I have been attending Sikh Soc events since first year and have enjoyed then. There a good balance between the religious and fun events. I would like to continue this and along with it learn more about Sikhism. I would consider myself someone who knows all the fun and cool places to go around central London that are student friendly and they are within a budget.
Some examples are pottery, board game cafes, trampolining, go ape and more and more enrichment events to do with sikhi.
I have great organisation skills this can be seen with my ability to balance university a part time job and life outside of university. I know I can dedicate time to the society and I am willing to make a difference.
Therefore, I would like to be considered for the position of the social secretary.

As a member of the Sikh society committee last year, I would say it has been a difficult year, with COVID-19 creating barriers and making it a mission to return to face-to-face events. In light of this, I would like to apply for Social secretary to further support the team and be able to help plan exciting events. I would like to be more involved in the society and help our society to grow even more. I’d like to apply for this role as I think it’s a great opportunity to help organise events that everyone would enjoy! I would to like to help plan events, both social and educational such as discussion evenings and social events such as bowling, top golf, ice skating and lots more to bring everyone together and make this year one to remember. I am friendly and easy to talk to which will allow me to organise these events and make sure everyone has a great time. I guarantee to organise fun and exciting events that will allow people to meet and create new friends. I'll make sure this is a welcoming environment for everyone, as well as a place where people can socialise and make their uni experience even better! Overall I believe I would be a success in this role and I hope to be able to demonstrate my abilities.
I would like to thank you all for taking your time to read this and I hope to see you all next year for an amazing year ahead!

I have really enjoyed the Sikhsoc events so far and I would really love to be a part of organising future events. I have great communication skills and also have some experience in organising events when I was Head boy at my School. I’m outgoing and I would say I’m an extrovert, so I genuinely enjoy being and working with other people.
An initiative I would like to bring to this society would be to create an active collaboration strategy where we collaborate and cross-promote events with other religious societies at UCL(for example Hindu society and Islamic Society) or other South Asian societies. Not only could these events be educational where we can learn about each other’s religions/cultures, but it would also be a great opportunity to meet new people–and as a second-year, I can say that Covid has made this quite difficult. And of course, I will also continue to build the relationships we have with other universities.
One type of event I would love to organise–which we could do both in person or remotely would be Gatka lessons. I learnt Gatka for 2 years, and not only was it great for my physical health but it also really helped with my mental health and we all know uni can be stressful at times.
