On 4 October, I had the pleasure of meeting Cllr Sabrina Francis, one of the three councillors representing the Bloomsbury Ward for Camden Council. She hosted us at the Camden Council offices, where we engaged in productive discussions on several key issues, including student housing, transport, parks, and accessibility and safety in and around Bloomsbury.
Our conversation also explored opportunities for deeper cultural and institutional collaborations between Students' Union UCL and Camden Council. We recognised that fostering a cultural exchange between UCL students and Camden residents is vital to strengthening our engagement within the community.
A particular focus was on connecting our wide range of clubs and societies with Camden Council to explore joint events that would amplify the student voice within this vibrant cultural landscape and build on connections with our wider community in Camden.
Additionally, Camden Council has introduced Love Camden, a platform that shares updates on the council’s events and campaigns – similar to our Union’s “What’s On Calendar”. With this month focusing on the celebration of Black history, the Council has organised a rich programme of activities through the next few months, from walking tours to film screenings, all designed to celebrate Black history and heritage. I encourage everyone to take a look and participate in these beautiful events.
