New to One Pool Street? Meet Eliora Iyere, your new Hall Community Officer. She is someone who’s passionate about making One Pool Street a welcoming, lively, and connected place to live. Whether it is organising hangouts in the common room, helping residents settle into life in Stratford, or simply being there for a chat, Eliora’s all about building a sense of community and making student life that bit brighter.
We caught up with her to chat about her plans for the year ahead, her favourite albums and reads, and a surprising hobby you might not expect...

Welcome to the role! If you had to describe One Pool Street in three words, what would they be?
Friendly, fun, and modern.
What is one thing about One Pool Street that you think everyone should know?
The common room is always open! It is such a great spot to hang out, study, or meet new people. I am trying to encourage more of a community feel, so most of the time there’s either an event going on or a few residents chatting and hanging out.
You are tasked with building strong communities and ensuring everyone has a positive living and learning experience in your accommodation. What is the most exciting part of that responsibility for you?
Meeting new people and getting to organise fun hangouts. I love having the chance to talk to residents and help everyone feel connected.
What is one area where you think One Pool Street residents could use a little extra support?
A lot of our resident’s study at Bloomsbury, so transport can be a real challenge — both figuring out the best routes and managing the costs. I think more guidance and support around that would help people a lot. Also, since East London has so much to explore, I would love to help residents discover local events, cafés, and things to do in Stratford so they can feel more at home in the area.
Who would be your dream dinner guests?
My family 100%. I don’t get to have dinner with them while I’m here, and I really miss that. Plus, going home always means amazing food, which is a bonus!
What’s your favourite album, film, and novel?
Album: Your Day Will Come by Chanel Beads or Vessel by Twenty-One Pilots
Film: Bones and All
Book: Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky (the same author as The Perks of Being a Wallflower)
What would it surprise people to know about you?
People are often surprised to hear that I used to play rugby! I really enjoyed it, and I’d actually love to get back into it while I’m at UCL.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Don’t speak negatively about yourself or your goals — your mindset really does shape your future. I’d tell myself to stay positive, believe in my abilities, and not let fear or doubt hold me back. Things don’t have to happen all at once; what matters is staying determined, moving forward and don’t give up.
What’s the best way for students to connect with you and share their views?
Instagram is the easiest way to reach me @meep.con.jeep I’m always happy to hear feedback or help with any ideas residents have. Whether it’s about events, life at One Pool Street, or just general support, my DMs are open!
