This year, we hosted a series of panel talks for our students to discover Volunteering.
What are the Discover Volunteering Talks?
As part of the Volunteering Service's series of specialised panel talks, we brought our students the opportunity to listen and learn from key charities across London and explore what it's like to volunteer in the fields of Tutoring and Mentoring; Health; Heritage and Women's Groups. Our students got the chance to gain insight into working in the third sector, ask questions and network with the charities!
Discover: Disability Groups
We work with many organisations that make a positive impact in the lives of children and young people with disabilities. Volunteering within this sector provide a wide variety of opportunities. Past opportunities have included helping young people with disabilities learning how to bake, enjoy dancing and supporting them when they need a listening ear!
Get ready to dive into inspiring discussions and discover exciting volunteering opportunities that are waiting for you.

Discover: Women's Groups
At our panel talk with different charities that support women, students learned how to empower women who find themselves in vulnerable positions. Volunteering with Women’s Groups includes protecting women from violence, helping women become financially independent, supporting women engaged in prostitution, and providing quality education. Volunteers are at the heart of the charities’ work to make everyone feel supported!
The charities that joined us were: Laamiga, Wonder Foundation, Women@TheWell, MEWSo, and SmartWorks

Discover: Tutoring & Mentoring
One of our most popular areas of volunteering is Tutoring & Mentoring. We work with lots of charities that support young people to overcome barriers to their education, and they’re all on the lookout for keen volunteers. Options include after-school clubs, mentoring, one-to-one tuition, educational workshops, and online projects. You’ve got to university – could you help a young person do the same?
The charities that joined us were: IntoUniversity, The Access Project, African Community School, and Literacy Pirates.
Discover: Health
Students who would like to make an impact on the health sector, joined us for this event. Health volunteering includes projects in hospitals, health promotion, and education, active lifestyles, mental health, and wellbeing.
The organisations present on the day were: London Nightline, Oxford & District Mencap, and Make a Smile.

Discover: Culture & Heritage
London is famous for its museums and its heritage organisations. At this event, students found out about roles as exhibition guides, event helpers, or museum education volunteers, and about opportunities to get involved behind the scenes, as well as opportunities focusing on different cultures, including arts.
