Elisia Swaby, Dodgeball Club President
We caught up with Elisia Swaby, President of Dodgeball Club, to tell us what they have achieved during their time at UCL.
President of Dodgeball Society
I played dodgeball in secondary school P.E. class, so when I saw a competitive team that I could join at UCL, it felt like a natural jump! The taster sessions had the greatest of vibes and I felt fully supported by our coach to strive for the best.
Being President is an immense privilege
My biggest achievement is both our Women’s and Men's team achieving a Top 3 place in our BUCS regional league this season! I’m so proud of them all and it’s amazing to see how proud they are of themselves too...
The Dodgeball Club has such a diverse range of talent, so it’s amazing to help create an environment where students can flourish as individuals, but also as part of a team.. There are so many things I am grateful for! But hands down, it has to be the members. Quite literally, there would be no club without them.
I have really appreciated how the Men’s and Women’s teams have supported each other this season. Getting up at the break of dawn or sticking around after morning matches (or even giving up free weekends!) to coach, cheer on and chase after dodgeballs- we appreciate you so much.
Communication is important both outside and during competitions
Leading up to games, the big priority is making sure everyone is on the same page, so ensuring everyone is informed on the game plan is paramount. We have an amazing coach (thank you Issy!) who incorporates our requests into training sessions, so that on competition days we feel the most confident version of ourselves!
Being President has been the best thing about my time at UCL
It’s probably been one of the biggest responsibilities I’ve taken on, but I have been so well supported by my friends, both committee and non-committee, on this journey. Dodgeball has not only shaped my experience, but is central to my time at UCL, and as a third-year medic- here’s to three more years of it!
