Your time at UCL isn’t just about your academic work! Through Students' Union UCL and the PGA, the UCL student community has created a huge array of opportunities to take time out and get to know other students. Whether you want to relax or get active, and however much time you want to give, there’s something for everyone. And if what you’re looking for doesn’t exist here yet, perhaps you’ll be the one to create it!
You can go back to the Postgraduate Association home page or browse upcoming PGA events.
Sports, societies and activities
We have a wide range of sports clubs, arts and general interest societies, and volunteering opportunities. These are all open to postgraduate students and the level of commitment is completely up to you.
All of our clubs and societies are listed here. You can buy membership online or pay in cash at the Student Activities Reception, Bloomsbury Building, 15 Gordon Street.
If you would like to play sport on a more casual basis in teams made from halls, societies or departments, then our intra-mural sport leagues and tournaments are for you.
If you would like to try new things around London and across the UK, check out our Give It A Go. Events take place throughout the year and include walking tours, trips to the theatre and visits to famous attractions such as Stonehenge.
Our volunteering opportunities range from one-off events to on-going projects and they are mostly free. You can even apply for funding to start your own programme, including for projects connecting your research to the wider public or local communities.
Events just for postgrads
As well as activities that are open to everyone, regular social events just for the postgraduate community are put on by the PGA. These include our monthly quiz nights, parties and the annual 3 Minute Thesis Competition. PGA socials are great opportunities to unwind and meet other postgraduate students from across UCL. Check out our calendar of upcoming events.
If you have ideas or suggestions for events, get in touch. If you want to get involved in organising them yourself, you can run for election in October as the PGA Events & Entertainments Officer, or give as much or as little time as you like as a volunteer on the PGA Events Team (email us).
