Having trained as a ballerina, I understand the impact sports injuries can have and how crucial injury prevention is. This is what drives my interest in Sports and Exercise Medicine (SEM). A stronger emphasis on flexibility and strength training could have helped me avoid injuries, reinforcing my belief in the importance of education and research in this field.
I am keen to pursue a career in SEM, and joining the committee would allow me to engage with others who share this interest while broadening my knowledge. I am particularly drawn to the area of injury prevention for dancers, a niche yet vital aspect of SEM.
Experience
RUMS Netball Social Secretary
- Oversaw the highest fresher uptake since COVID, making us the largest club in RUMS.
- Created an inclusive environment, integrating both players and non-players as well as medics and non-medics.
- Organised RUMS Netball Tour which sold out quickly due to efficient planning and execution.
- Developed a strong understanding of member needs, delivering events that were well-received.
- Worked effectively within a team to achieve key objectives.
My experience in leadership, organisation, and teamwork, combined with my enthusiasm for SEM, makes me well-suited for a role on the committee. I look forward to contributing to SEMsoc and helping expand opportunities for others interested in the field.

Passion for Sports Medicine
My journey in sports medicine began with a deep-rooted passion for sport itself. I have always been interested in sport from a young age, playing a wide range myself, including netball, tennis, athletics, rounders and cricket. Tennis was my sport I progressed the furtherest with; playing at an international level. I sparked an interest in Sports Medicine during my iBSc in sports medicine where i grew an understanding how physical activity impacts health. This interest led me to actively participate in a groundbreaking research project at the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health (ISEH), focusing on female footballers, and the impact of the menstrual cycle on reaction times. Leading on from my initial reserach, I collaborated with esteemed researchers, aiming to identify neurocognitive determinants of injury risk and assess the impact of heading the ball on brain health in female athletes. This experience not only honed my research skills but also deepened my commitment to advancing sports medicine.
Vision for the Society
I would love to represent SEM at UCL as I hold a strong passion for the speciality and it would be an honour to represent something I not only have a strong academic interest in but also a personal interest for. I envision our society as a vibrant hub where students can explore the multifaceted world of sports medicine and learn more about this new upcoming specialities.
