Ian Baker Supremacy
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I hope to bring residents across Ian Baker and Ramsay closer together and help make halls feel like home for all. I’m very happy that I’ve settled into university life relatively quickly, but I’ve also met people who haven’t found the transition as easy. I’d love to help create more opportunities for residents to connect beyond their existing friendship groups and floors. One idea I’d like to explore is organising shared dinners where residents cook, bring along what they’ve made and eat together. I think this could be a fun activity that gives people a reason to build a hall-wide community.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Having lived in Dubai for 13 years and learned four languages, I’m used to being around people from different cultural backgrounds. I’ve always enjoyed meeting people from all around the world, and I hope to continue doing so throughout my time at UCL. I’ve learned that living with other students and adapting to university life can be challenging in different ways. I’d bring an open-minded, approachable attitude, a willingness to listen and a genuine interest in getting to know residents and understanding what would help them feel more comfortable in halls.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Students should vote for me because I want them to feel comfortable being themselves in halls, approaching others and knowing they have a place in the community. Moving away from home and living with people you may have never met before can be daunting, and I want to help make that experience more welcoming. I’m really looking forward to meeting so many new people at UCL, and as Hall Community Officer, I’d put that enthusiasm into helping residents connect, feel included and build friendships.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Over the past few weeks, I think most of us have noticed that there is room for improvement at Ramsay Hall. From lifts not working and bins overflowing to common room access and early morning fire drills, there are quite a few things that could be better. After all, Ramsay Hall and Ian are supposed to be our home, not just a place where we sleep. And I think we can do better than this.

If elected, I hope to make our voices heard and push for real improvements. I know that not everything can be changed overnight, but I promise to keep raising your concerns and looking for solutions.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

For the past four years, I've been elected class representative. Although this was at high school, it helped me develop my communication and debating skills and taught me the importance of representing others. I'm not going to pretend I'm perfect or that I'll always find the best solution. I'm fully aware that I'll make mistakes, but what matters is learning from them and adapting to do better the next day. I'll always be willing to listen, speak up, and try to find solutions.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

You should vote for me not because I promise to solve every problem, but because I promise I won't give up trying. I won't make promises I can't keep just to get your vote. Instead, I'll listen to your concerns, make sure they're heard, and keep pushing for improvements. I know that change isn't always easy, and I won't always have the answers, but I'm willing to ask questions, challenge things when necessary, and learn from my mistakes. You deserve someone who genuinely tries to make a difference, and that's what I'll do.
