Election post
My main goal would be to encourage a greater involvement in volunteering from the UCL students. From speaking to people, it is very clear to me that the students have a real desire to help out and work with local charities. However, they are often too shy to start or even just unaware of how simple it is to begin their journey. By engaging the student body here at UCL, I believe that any stigma around volunteering will fall, the university will enjoy fantastic relations with the surrounding areas and, most significantly, the causes we wish to volunteer for will receive greater support.
Volunteering has played a crucial part in my upbringing and is a tenet I could never lose hold of. From volunteering for the Bloomsbury Football foundation since 14 I have great experience of the different levels of volunteering and how the responsibilities and duties differ. Over that period, I have had the privilege of seeing this wonderful charity blossom into the incredible organisation it is today which has given me great insight into the details of how to scale a charity and the necessary steps to increase the reach whilst never losing its founding essence.
I have much experience in volunteering which has only increased my hunger to further participate and work hard for those in need. This experience has given me the necessary skill set (of compassion, hard work, leadership, and knowledge) to work in the role which I would undertake with great energy and passion. Whether volunteering for local food banks or writing letters to children in Burkina Faso, I believe that volunteering can take so many different forms each of which are as integral and admirable as the other and I would love to support UCL students in any of these forms.
