What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Hello! I'm Sam, I am a mature UG student studying History. I have been at UCL since 2019 and spent several years studying in Norway.

I want to move away from in-classroom socials. Kahoot quizzes in the IOE are not my idea of fun. London has so much to offer – let's use the city. I want to do:

Weekly lunchtime meets on campus and weekly evening socials.

Cinema nights
Theatre trips
Club/pub nights
Movie/TV marathons (binge watching Derry Girls anyone?)
Child-friendly socials for parents
Hikes/rambles in London parks, and outside London too
Travelling together – city breaks to Europe?
And a lot more.

 

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I will bring a genuine sense of fun and willingness to try new things. Let's have a really good year and make some friends for life!

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I want to be your social secretary because I love to meet new people and I want to help our community build stronger social ties with each other. London can be a lonely place if you don't have a pre-existing social network, and in my experience, it is harder for mature and part-time students, parents and students with caring responsibilities to meet people. That is why I think organising regular (weekly at the very least) socials is so important.

I also want to encourage impromptu events. If there is no official event on but you are feeling lonely, tell me – I am often free for a pint.
