I previously worked as a student representative during my undergrad. Through my role, I successfully pushed for keeping online examinations for students who had not sat in-person exams due to COVID-19. As a student representative, I gained experience attending meetings with faculty and supporting fellow students. Currently, I work part-time as a caseworker in a Citizens Advice bureau. I advocate for clients and act to resolve any issues they might have with their creditors, landlords, etc. I plan to use my experience in advocacy when acting as your representative to the faculty.
What I hope to achieve as a faculty representative will depend on what you require from me. I plan to conduct periodic surveys and provide opportunities for us to come together, both online and in person, to discuss our concerns. I will then take the outcome of these discussions and bring them to the law faculty. I also hope to provide more opportunities for human rights law firms, law centres, and organisations driven by social justice to come to UCL to discuss their work and to network with students. Lastly, I will push to make our programs as accessible for students as possible.
As a faculty representative, I promise to be a strong advocate for postgrad students, pushing for our common needs and ensuring our voices are heard. I will also act as a bridge between you and the law faculty and ensure that any issues you raise or suggestions you have will be passed on to relevant persons. To ensure accountability, at the end of each term, I pledge to publish a progress report to outline the work that I have done and the progress we have made.
